THE PACKAGING ILLUSION AND REAL FOOD DIVERSITY

The world should talk about uniform diets, not hunger

There is a subject that has caught my attention as I have researched the food sector for many years. The world keeps talking about producing more food.

But is the food we produce really diverse enough? Today, when we walk into grocery stores, we see hundreds of products. At first glance, it looks as if there is a great variety. But when you look behind the labels, you notice that most products are shaped around the same basic raw materials. Different packages, brands, flavors, and, most of the time, similar contents.

This brings the following question to mind. Is diversity really on the shelves, or only in the packaging? In my view, the food revolution will be the ability to offer more diversity, not producing more.

Because nature is built on diversity. So is the human body, so is our gut microbiota, and so are agriculture and the ecosystem. The most valuable food system will be the one that can offer diversity, resilience, and nutritional quality together, not only the one that fills our stomachs.

For me, the food of the future is not simply more food, but food that is more conscious and more diverse. Are our tables truly rich, or only full?
